This workshop investigates optimal versus non-optimal abdominal wall recruitment in Pilates movement. In the Pilates environment it is imperative that the abdominals are recruited in the correct manner and reflect the demands of the specific Pilates exercises. The ability to be able to assess the resting abdominal wall observation of surface anatomy landmarks and specific tests are valuable skills for the Pilates teacher. Understanding healthy breathing strategies, abdominal recruitment strategies at rest as well as over activity and underactivity in Pilates exercises will be enhanced in this workshop.
Real time ultrasound imaging in the course enables the instructor visualize optimal versus non-optimal abdominal wall recruitment and associate recruitment cues with actual muscle engagement in real time.
